IKEA has launched its Inspelning smart plug in the US and other markets for $11.99. This smart plug lets users monitor and adjust how and when they use energy-intensive appliances. It works in conjunction with IKEA’s Dirigera smart hub and the new Energy Insights feature.
The Inspelning smart plug can be controlled remotely using the IKEA Home smart app, a remote control, or a motion sensor. This adds convenience and flexibility, as you can turn devices on or off while away from home or automate the device based on movement. It’s essentially a plug that lets you turn your current household electronics on and off as if they were smart devices.
The Energy Insights feature in the Swedish IKEA Home smart app lets people monitor their electricity consumption in real-time, which is a bit more unique in the smart plug space. It provides data on electricity spot prices and compares a household’s energy usage to similar homes, which will help users find where their spending is highest. IKEA plans to expand on this feature throughout the year by offering personalized advice on energy-saving measures and recommendations on developments and services that can reduce energy use.
The Inspelning smart plug is small at 2.5 inches in width, 1.75 inches in height, and 3 inches in length. It’s also lightweight at 3 oz, so it shouldn’t cause issues with your plug. You can only plug in one device per smart plug, but multiple plugs can be attached to a single remote or motion sensor. The maximum is 10, which will help streamline control over your electronics. The Inspelning smart plug launch was first teased in May when IKEA announced plans to help buyers understand their energy consumption.
The plug was supposed to come out in October, but you can buy it for 11.99 on the official IKEA website today.
