  • Kakao Games are set to produce a new AAA cross-platform MMORPG
  • It’ll be published by Lionheart Studio and set to be revealed at G-Star in Korea this month
  • The game, codenamed “Project Q” is inspired by the Norse Edda saga

Fans of Kakao Games and their previous hits like Guardian Tales and Eversoul will be excited to learn that the developer has something big up their sleeve. As announced on LinkedIn (where all exciting news comes from) the studio has a new cross-platform mobile and PC MMORPG in the works. It’s set to be published by Lionheart Studio and will get its first reveal at the G-Star event in Korea later this month.

So what do we know about this mysterious new release, codenamed “Project Q”? Well, for one we know that it’s going to be a mobile and PC, cross-platform game with crossplay from the get-go, obviously. But it’s also taking inspiration from an unusual source, supposedly being based heavily on the Norse mythological cycle, the Edda.

Now, I’m not going to go into the actual history of the Edda, mainly because it’s well beyond our remit. But as you might guess it’s a collection of famous Norse & Viking poems and stories that pretty much inform a huge swathe of what we know about modern Viking mythology.

Vikings ahoy(?)

So is this going to be some rip-roaring Nordic fare? Eh, not likely as they say this is merely “inspired” by the Edda, and we all know how loose inspiration can be when it comes to gaming (looking at you, Dante’s Inferno). However, regardless of the proposed AAA quality and the talent behind it make this upcoming launch an exciting prospect.

Speaking of great anime inspiration taken from an oddball source, (excuse the transition) why not check out our list of the top 15 best anime games on mobile?

And if you do, you may spot a certain game called Eversoul in there (or not, you’ll have to read to find out). But be sure to check out Kakao Games’ other big hit and dig into our interview on the game’s pixel art and design!
