- Explore the Ruins of Erangel in the latest PUBG Mobile update
- The Play for Green Campaign challenges players to explore a climate change-ridden version of the map
- There’s also new charitable initiatives and a contest for World of Wonder maps!
Top battle royale PUBG Mobile is set to introduce a brand new set of maps to raise awareness about climate change. The Play for Green campaign, which is launching as part of Playing for the Planet’s Green Game Jam, lets players convert their in-game movement into tangible real-world support for climate change charities with the Run for Green event, which will also offer exclusive digital rewards.
You’ll be able to explore the Ruins of Erangel in two new maps, with Sandstorm and Exploration, showing how climate change made this formerly verdant battleground into a wasteland. While the former is your typical battle royale scenario where you need to gather essential medical packs as you face off against other players, the latter takes you on a journey to explore the effects of climate change.
And it’s not just restricted to the main game either, as you’ll also be able to see new items arriving in World of Wonder like the endangered California Redwood and Giant Baobab trees. In addition, the new World Of Wonder Green Creative Contest will challenge players to use these items to craft their own maps using the ruins of Erangel templates to compete for a top prize.
Gunning for green
Although I’d say there is an element of irony in a game that’s concentrated around killing your fellow man helping to raise awareness about climate change, it does show how widespread a platform PUBG Mobile has become. Especially since we’ve only recently seen chief competitor Fortnite become more widely available on mobile.
And it’s not just the new map either, as PUBG Mobile will also hold challenges on its social media channels, as well as offering a new Preservation Garden for player homes that display endangered trees.
