- Songs of Conquest is a fantasy-themed strategy game that previously released on PC
- It’s coming to mobile ‘soon’, though there’s no specific release date yet
- The developer is also working on DLCs and expansions
Coffee Stain Studios, Coffee Stain Malmo, and Lavapotion – phew, that’s a lot of names – have announced today that they are banding together to bring Songs of Conquest to mobile. While no release date has been announced yet, we’re told it’s arriving ‘soon’, so stay tuned to Pocket Gamer. We’ll be sure to let you know when that’s unveiled.
Now, let’s chat about Songs of Conquest itself. It’s a fantasy-themed strategy game that originally launched in Early Access for PC back in May 2022 before the full 1.0 version arrived this year. It’s sold relatively well in that time, with over 500,000 people yearning for some retro-styled strategy. And who can blame them? Build something targeting a nostalgic niche, and the warm fuzzy memories will pull people in.
Songs of Conquest draws inspiration from 90s classics like Heroes of Might and Magic and the Age of Wonder series. That means you can expect some good old turn-based combat alongside managing your kingdom in between waging battles. And, of course, as you’ve probably noticed by now, it sports the pixel graphic style those aforementioned inspirations were known for, and they look stunning.
Gameplay-wise, I’ve always found standard medieval strategy a tad dull. I appreciate the skill required to wield a sword or a bow, but it’s a little too pedestrian for my tastes. Throw a wizard or two in there, and I’m suddenly a lot more interested. And I’m happy to report that magic is a thing in Songs of Conquest. Of course, it’ll be crucial to use the various troop abilities and other systems to claim victory, but as long as I have a guy who can sling a few spells as well, I’m into it.
In total, there are four factions available, each appealing to different playstyles. They include knights, swamp dwellers, merchants and – the one that pricked my ears – necromancers. With them, you can battle through four separate campaigns. DLC and expansions are also in the works, meaning that number could increase soon.
