The King of Fighters AFK has been revealed by Netmarble as part of their Tokyo Game Show presence, with a new trailer and some (very) light details coming fresh from the show.

Netmarble have announced their next entry in SNK’s long-running fighting series The King of Fighters, but this time it comes with a bit of an idle twist. That’s right, we don’t know much about The King of Fighters AFK, however we do know that it’s going to be an ‘AFK RPG’ — a game that progresses while you’re away from your device or the game is running in the background.

Beyond that, details are incredibly light on the ground, however do give the teaser trailer below a watch and keep an eye on the site as we’ll make sure to keep you updated on any more news about it as it comes.

This is, of course, not the first King of Fighters game that Netmarble have handled on mobile, in recent memory we’ve had King of Fighters ALLSTAR, while JoyCity handled the release of Survival City earlier in the year. It’s safe to say that the IP isn’t a stranger to mobile.

Beyond this we don’t have many details, however the press release did double down on the pixle art-style and also confirm that collecting new characters would be a core part of the experience.

“This new title features iconic characters from “The King of Fighters” series reimagined in pixel art graphics that gamers are familiar with from THE KING OF FIGHTERS R-2 on Neo Geo Pocket Color, which was developed based on THE KING OF FIGHTERS ‘98. In addition, THE KING OF FIGHTERS AFK brings together key characters from “The King of Fighters” series to maximize the fun of collecting characters, and the game’s unique combat system will set it apart from other King of Fighters series and enhance the excitement of strategic play and character development.”

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any further developments, as well as anything else that comes out of Tokyo Game Show this year.
